🌱 Gems Encoded

Hey friends,I literally had nothing to say until I stepped into an ongoing naming ceremony. When all was said and done, I was convinced that my Fatherhood began a long time ago, not necessarily when I give birth to children and I believe the same is the case for us all.Let's get into it!

🧵 Reflection Point

So I decided to attend a naming ceremony a few weeks back. During the proceedings, a moment stood out for me and literally, it felt like everything stood still. I was for sure out of that building in my mind and these were the last thing that happened before I got lost in thought...

The baby was handed over to her father by my pastor, and he began to utter prayers like, the Lord would provide Resources to Nurture the baby at all Seasons of her life, he made mention of seasons like when the baby begins to giggle, when she begins to crawl, when she begins to make effort to speak by mumbling words, when she begins to take her first steps, when she begins to tell her dad to excuse her because she's gotta change her dress (I added that, lol : ) but as I write, she's so small, fragile, almost immobile, not able to express herself via words neither can she stand, talk-less of walk.

It seems to me that the father was giving a Living Gem capable of taking over the world but encoded in seed form, leaving him with a choice to either give his Focus | Commitment | Staying Consistent to watching his little seed grow or get caught up in the needless activities, pressure, and unhealthy competition that distract him from the very things that matter.

I was able to connect the dots instantly.

I immediately realized that we all are fathers actually, regardless of our gender. We all were handed wonders, visions, and life-long dreams in seed form, saddled with the responsibility of nurturing these seedlings into becoming a mighty fortress. For many, we would need to not just watch but fight for the maturity of our conceived visions and dreams as many external & internal factors desire to terminate their existence, what would we leave for if that happens? Isn't it like saying a father should watch her daughter die of starvation?

There are times when life-threatening sickness will attempt to claim the life of the little gem, Fathers would have to fight for the life of the one he loves, should they get caught up in a danger zone with gunshot all over, Fathers will have to go all the way by shielding his gem with himself without a second thought.

Questions you need to answer, like literally

  • What exactly are your little Gems? Life is not worth living without them, so define them today & write them out

  • At what point did you stop providing nurture for her growth? She'll starve right before your eyes, do something

  • How far are you willing to go for her? You cannot imagine her ripple effect when she eventually matures

  • Have you been a responsible Father?

Stay Focused | Committed | Consistent.

⏳ Pomodoro Technique :

Beat procrastination and improve your focus

Believe it or not, I struggle a lot with procrastination and the inability to focus when working on important things that are hard to do or not too interesting to do. Having noticed this defect, I went in search of a solution and I found this, The Pomodoro Technique (currently using it to prepare this newsletter 😂).

The Pomodoro Technique was developed in the late 1980s by then university student Francesco Cirillo. Cirillo was struggling to focus on his studies and complete assignments. Feeling overwhelmed, he asked himself to commit to just 10 minutes of focused study time. Encouraged by the challenge, he found a tomato (Pomodoro in Italian) shaped kitchen timer, and the Pomodoro technique was born.

The time management method asks you to alternate pomodoros — focused work sessions — with frequent short breaks to promote sustained concentration and stave off mental fatigue.

How it works
How it works

The 25-minute (25-mins is the standard but you can increase it as you wish, I personally use 40-mins) work sprints are the core of the method, but a Pomodoro practice also includes three rules for getting the most out of each interval:

  1. Break down complex projects. If a task requires more than four pomodoros, it needs to be divided into smaller, actionable steps. Sticking to this rule will help ensure you make clear progress on your projects.

  2. Small tasks go together. Any tasks that will take less than one Pomodoro should be combined with other simple tasks. For example, "write rent check," "set vet appointment," and "read Pomodoro article" could go together in one session.

  3. Once a Pomodoro is set, it must ring. The Pomodoro is an indivisible unit of time and can not be broken, especially not to check incoming emails or calls, team chats, or text messages.

In the event of an unavoidable disruption, take your five-minute break and start again. Cirillo recommends that you track interruptions (internal or external) as they occur and reflect on how to avoid them in your next session.

Check out the resource below for in-depth knowledge on this,

I highly recommend it.

📃 Article - The Arc of the Practical Creator

Are you a creator, are you working on a side project with the aim of building a start-up someday, do you venture into other stuff after your 9 am - 5 pm job or are you looking forward to starting up an idea you've been nursing? This is a must-read for you. Lawrence presents a framework for creators to run with. Here's an excerpt from the article:

An act of expression can only be deemed creative when it is aligned with one’s true curiosities and interests.
