  • 🪔 Civilized Consumer Slavery Syndrome

🌟 Quote for the week

Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is: everything around you that you call ‘life’ was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use

🪔 Civilized Consumer Slavery

It is so much easier to consume than to get ourselves into the creative mode, talk less of actually putting a piece of work out there. That’s because humans naturally tend to seek the path of least resistance, and various companies have engineered their products to take advantage of this syndrome, thereby building algorithms that constantly supply an endless spawn of information; to binge-watch without even thinking.

I coined a word for this, it’s called “Civilized Consumer Slavery”

When it comes to remarkable leaders, craftsmen, artist and entrepreneurs, each individual have their own set of principles, but one thing remains a constant as an underlying strategy for their exceptional work, to be remembered decades after their departure:

They Create More, and Consume Less.

By evicting mindless consumption of all things unnecessary (all under the umbrella of relaxation) instead creating more, you eventually will claim a larger part of yourself. Craftsmen understand this deeply.

Here is a list of strategies to make this happen.

  1. Make it difficult to do easy things (consuming), put screen time to work

  2. Make it easier to do seemingly difficult things (creating)

  3. Set up a distraction free phone.

  4. Keep a daily journal, they have a magical way of keeping you thoughtful & accountable. (Recommend DayOne Journal app, if you’d prefer a digital journal)

  5. Find a medium that resonates with you, writing, art & engineering, invention, technology, teaching, building e.t.c. Find your Craft

  6. Start small but Create Value

  7. Forget about recognition, keep consistency in creating value & your audience will find your craft eventually.

Yes, creativity is not based on one’s ability to be artistic as perceived, it has nothing to do with natural talent. It largely depends on one’s perspective, and also using technology with an intentional approach, more as a tool for learning to create, as opposed to an object for pleasure. We must learn to flip the switch from mindless consumption to conscious creation, if we intend to attain any form of heights in our potential

❤ Favourite things

  • 🎙 The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos & the Age of Amazon - This podcast channel releases a review of a biography of great entrepreneurs and dispenses a ton of wisdom & ideas that can be used daily. Highly recommend it.

  • 📚 Book: Invent and Wonder, The Collected Writings of Jeff Bezos, With an Introduction by Walter Isaacson: This should be on every entrepreneur’s desk, the book contains Jeff’s unique and strikingly original annual shareholder letters, plus numerous speeches and interviews that provide insight into his background. Tons of wisdom & lessons to learn.

Take Steps.
